Project title: Strengthening civil society-government dialogue on conflict and stability Partners: GYLA and Saferworld Project coordinator: Tiko Tkeshelashvili Duration: 2010-2011 Donor: UK Conflict Pool
Description
The project is implemented by the Caucasus Institute for Peace Democracy and Development, the Georgian Young Lawyers Association and Saferworld in Georgia from April 2010 to March 2011, with a focus on the four regions of Kvemo Kartli, Samegrelo, Samtskeh-Javakheti and Shida Kartli. This work builds upon an 18 month EU IFS funded project to support representative groups in the four regions to develop strategies for managing the conflicts and their impacts at both the local and national levels.
The process has the following objectives:
1. Map the positions, policies and actions of those stakeholders who play a role in responding to the impact of the August 2008 conflict. 2. Develop a community-friendly booklet explaining the role of these stakeholders and how they impact on the lives of conflict-affected communities. 3. Ensure local authorities in the four target regions understand and buy-into the process and its objectives, and are willing to participate in the ‘Regional Roadshow’ discussions (see below). 4. Constructive public discussions between community and authority representatives of the local and national strategies in the four target regions and at the national level in Tbilisi – the ‘Regional Roadshow’. 5. Coverage of these discussions in local and national media.
