Local Governance in Central and Eastern Europe: Comparing Performance in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Russia 5.10.2012

In CIPDD resource centre you have an opportunity to find a new book "Local Governance in Central and Eastern Europe: Comparing Performance in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Russia" In this book the authors emphasize the fact that after decades of central planning, decentralization has been made a centerpiece of political reforms in post-communist states. The authors pay attention to the fact that the aim of the study is to understand not only why post-communist states have differed in their local government developments, but also why they have contrasts between their cities even through they have created broadly similar local government institutional frameworks. The book consists of 7chapters. Together with theoretical part, practical examples of Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Russia are also discussed. More than 700 books, magazines and articles can also be found in the resource centre on the issues related to decentralization, including: political and financial aspects of this process, public participation, examples of countries from Latin America, Asia and Africa. Resource centre is open to all interested persons. For further questions please contact Nino Ghambashidze at nino@participate.ge or 2355154. Resource centre is funded by a grant from the Social Transformation Programme (MATRA) of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
